How to heat proof your make up

It would seem that summer has finally reached the UK at long last, today while out on my lunch break it was 30 degrees C *Desperately tries to refrain from saying “SCORCHIO!”* With the heat comes a battle of keeping your make up in place and from melting quite literally off you face.

Here are my top tips to help your make up last as long as possible while the sun is out.

heat proof your make up

1.Prime – A primer may not be part of your usual make up routine but it will help smooth out the skin. Pick a mattifying primer to keep excess oil at bay and lock your base in.

2 Keep it to the minimum – Keep everything to the absolute minimum. No one wants 4569 layers upon layers of product on their skin at the best of times never mind in the noon sun.

3 Choose the sheerest formula base you feel comfortable with No, I’m not saying go from a thick full coverage cream foundation to a BB cream, I am a full coverage kind of girl myself, but try something slightly lighter than normal. For example switch Estee Lauder Double Wear for their Double Wear light option and conceal where needed.

4. Waterproof mascara is a must Pandas are hella cute but no one wants to look like one during a 12 hour shift at work. Moisture will cause non waterproof counterparts to run so pick up a waterproof version and you can thank me later.

5. Blot and then powder If you have oily skin then midday shine can be a massive pain in the back side. If you reach for the powder before taking away the oil then your going to end up a little bit cakey. Blot paper is your friend, gently blot away excess oil and moisture away and then gently powder.

6 Setting spray Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray locks in your look like no other. It is one of the best products out on the market and worth every penny. Spray this over your finished look 2-4 times in a T formation and it will help keep you looking fresh all day.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, let me know if you have any tips and trick to help your make up keep on your face. I’m off to go melt in a corner.

Smoky Eye essential from The Body Shop

Everyone loves a smoky eye but sometimes we don’t have the time, patience or the clean brushes to smoke, smoke, smoke with eye shadow. Well fear not as thanks to The Body Shop we can get our smoke on without blending your arms off.

I picked up the Smoky Eye Definer Pencil in a recent Easter Bank Holiday sale, I love The Body Shop but I sometimes over look their make up range but it was on offer and I needed to itch that spending spot that I sometimes get so I popped it into my cart and forgot about it until it landed a few days later on my door step.

The body shop smoky eye

My first impressions were to be honest a bit “meh”, it’s an eye pencil and lets face it they are never the most exciting or prettiest products in the make up world. A few days later I thought I’d give it a whirl and see if it was any good and it was! I’m always really picky when it comes to eye pencils as I find they are either too hard and you end up gouging out your eye-ball in a vain attempt to get the product on or they are far too soft and end up all over your face like a not so cute panda.

The Body Shop pencil is the perfect in between of not too hard and not too soft that Goldilocks would instantly approve. It glides on like a dream and while the pigment is not enough that you get a jet black pay off it builds lovely and the smudger on the other end is perfect for smoking it out.

You may have seen one of the popular beauty hack of drawing a # on the outer corner of your eye then blending this out (if you haven’t click here) well this is PERFECT for that!

MUA Luxe – Whipped Velvet

Hello Ladies,

If you a regular in Superdrug then I have no doubt that you will have seen MUA and probably spent a couple of quid on them. For me MUA have some winners and some losers when it comes to quality but no one can argue with their price point. The Luxe line is slightly more expensive than their regular stuff but it still is easy on the purse and offers some quality products.

I’ve had the Whipped Blush and Bronzer for a while now and thought that they were worthy of a few photos and a quick write-up. They cost a mere £3 each and offer a soft, mousse like texture that packs a pretty good punch in terms of pigmentation. A little goes a hell of a long way so if you pick these up us them with a light hand and blend, blend, blend.

The bush is in shade Ritzy and the bronzer is Majestic Gild. Ritzy is a hot pink shade that is a bit too pink for my pale self but used lightly offers a nice flush, I imagine this would stunning on someone with an olive or deep skin tone. Majestic Gild is perfect for getting the VS model glow and will look great on summer days when you don’t want too much on your face but need a bit of something. Again being pretty fair I have to use this very sparingly and the smallest amount add a bit of warmth to the high points where I’d naturally catch the sun.

MUA Luxe blusher and bronzer

I like to apply these with my Real Techniques stippling brush, literally I dab so lightly on them and buff into the skin building the colour up if needed. As I mentioned earlier a light hand is needed with these so go carefully.

For £3 each they are such a good buy and they are compact so perfect if you want to take them with you on the go or on holiday. The packaging isn’t very luxe for me but the soft air whipped mousse-like product gives it a high quality feel to it.

I’d love to know what you think if you pick these up.

Phee’s Make Up – Eyeshadow Trio

This post is probably the most overdue in the whole blogging world as it was meant to be up 5 months ago. I know, I know FFS Claire!!

Anyway – Phee is bringing out more and more brilliant products on the regular now. Everything is handmade and Phee works so hard to get the shades exactly how she wants them. They are also cruelty free and vegan.

This eyeshadow trio is made up of “Peppered” a golden taupe “Sphinx” a copper and “Polilla” warm duo chrome brown.

As the eye shadows contain no fillers what so ever the colour pay of is second to none. I love using Peppered for daytime as its such a pretty light golden shade perfect for inner corners of the eyes but my favourite has to be Polilla….I mean its duo chrome, who doesn’t love a duo chrome?

Here are some swatches and fyi there is no primer or anything else on my skin, this is all Phee’s product and nothing else! SO pretty

You can buy the eye shadows individually at £6.50 each or all three for £15.50. You can find the site HERE
