7 deadly sins of make up

The beautiful Gemma over at McCarthy’s beauty review tagged me in the 7 deadly sins of make up post…. I love taking part in these as well as seeing everyone’s posts so here is mine!

Greed – most expensive beauty product
This without a doubt is my beautiful but very expensive Ellis Faas skin veil foundation at £55 it’s by far the most expensive item in my collection but my word it give a beautiful finish!

Wrath – the thing you have a love/hate relationship with
This is tricky but I’d probably have to say eyelash curlers. I’ve yet to find an amazing pair that really does create beautiful curled eyelashes that stay.

Gluttony – which brand makes up the most of your collection
Estée Lauder for sure! I don’t know what it is but I just adore Estée Lauder from foundation to lipsticks to perfumes I just can’t get enough! I find the packaging to be classic and timeless and the products to be spot on.

Sloth – what thing do you neglect the most
Eye cream for sure, I don’t know why when I’ve got dark circles but I always forget my eye cream.

Pride – what item gives you the most confidence
It’s all about the eyebrows for me, I don’t feel done with out some wax and eye brow powder. I love the elf eyebrow kit as it’s super affordable and as good as Benefit’s brow-zing.

Lust – top of the wish list
Currently I’m dying to get my hands on the gold bar highlight by Charlotte Tilbury or anything Tom Ford.

Envy – what’s the one thing that looks great on others but no you
This is orange lips – I LOVE them on everyone else but on me I look like a clown. I don’t know if I’m just choosing the wrong shades for my skin tone or if they just don’t suit me.

I’ve loved going through my deadly sins and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it…..if anyone posts theirs then please let me let me know. I’d love to read them!

As always thanks for reading!

So I’ve been AWOL…..

So over the past few of weeks I’ve been somewhat missing in action and taken a step back from blogging. I decided that I needed a bit of time to not only enjoy the weather but focus on me.

Last summer I got really into swimming and becoming a healthier person but then I took a job working crazy hours in a hotel and all my hard work disappeared and I put the weight I lost back on plus some more but this year I’ve started back at a place I love with working normal hours. After settling back in and finding my feet again I decided I should re-focus on my health and getting back to where I was before hence why I’ve been absent. I’ve been watching my food using the my fitness pal app and swimming -Lots of swimming which I’ve re-discovered my love for. I started back just doing 10 lengths but now I can manage 45 in one session (not none stop mind) I feel so much better and have more energy than I’ve ever had. Plus to top it off in the past 25 days I’ve lost a stone and 3lbs which I’m really pleased about. I’ve got a long way to go yet but just by adding in swimming and watching what I eat has made such a big difference.
I am back now and I apologise for being AWOL but there is lots of blog posts coming up I promise!!

Revlon Colourburst

I was having a browse round Boots the other day and saw they had a 2 for £10 offer on selected Revlon products. I’m a massive Revlon fan so this was pretty hard to resist and I’ve been meaning to try some of the Colourburst lip products for a while now. Previously I’d been using an MUA power pout which is a pretty similar product but I found them to be rather drying on my lips but I loved the ease of use of the product.
After about ten mins debating which colours to try I settled with the Colourburst Matte in Showy which is a really bright blue toned pink and the Colourburst balm stain in Honey which is a beautiful nude colour that is my lips but even better and much prettier nude.

I love the simple but bright packaging these little beauties come in and the big crayon like product glides like a dream. Colour pay off is pretty good especially on the matte shade and longevity is ok on the balm stain and very good on the matte one. These really where balm like and I did not find them drying at all. The only thing I would say is make sure you use a lip scrub before using the matte options as they will really exaggerate any dry areas on your lips but the product itself feels really soft and buttery.

I absolutely love these and they are definitely worth paying that bit extra over some of the cheaper ones out there especially of you find those ones quite drying like I do.
I can’t wait to pick up some more of these in different shades.

Out for dinner – what’s on my face

Yesterday we went out with my parents for dinner to celebrate my Dad’s birthday so this was the perfect excuse to get the make up out and have some fun! I was going to wear a really bright floral kimono cover up so I didn’t want my make up to be too much and decided to go with neutral lips and a toned down smoky eye with eyeliner.

For my base I used Rimmel fix + perfect primer. I love this drugstore primer as it really does keep my foundation matte without having to touch up. I apply this with the Real Techniques expert face sponge. My foundation was Revlon colour stay for oily/combination skin in sand beige. Again I used the RT sponge to apply. This is my new favourite foundation after testing it out in my high street foundation review. It’s a fantastic cheaper alternative to my beloved Estée Lauder double wear and is actually a better colour match for me. Under my eyes I used the ELF maximum coverage concealer it just helps with my circles and bags which seem really bad currently, I also used this down the centre of my nose, a tad high on the cheek bones and on the centre of my forehead. I use this in a shade lighter than my foundation. To set I use Rimmel stay matte pressed powder in translucent. I’ve been using this for years and is must have for me. I apply a tiny amount with a large puff that I picked up ages ago from the beauty outlet. I then took my Body shop Honey bronze bronzing powder in shade 02 to dusted the outside of my face using a bronzing brush then took a smaller brush to slightly contour my nose and cheeks using the same bronzer. I didn’t want to go full on contour and highlight so I only did this very lightly. If you are on the pale side like me and are looking for a shimmer free bronzer check out the Honey bronze range at Body shop, these ones come in four shades so it’s perfect for use paler girlies. Cheeks was body shop baked to last blush in 01 petal and then I took the blush from my sleek palette and dusted this lightly over the top.

Next I moved into my eyes. I decided to go with a lighter take on a smoky eye so I used my W7 in the buff palette which is an absolute bargain I picked up and a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 2. I can’t remember which colours I used but there was three (sorry bad blogger here!) I then took my ELF eye transform and blended it all together with the shade with the pink tones (there is no shade names on the packaging) I then finished this off with gel eye liner by Make up Atelier and Estée Lauder mascara. My brows are ELF brow kit in dark – I love this product so much. It’s a good as Benefit Brow-zings into book! I then used a body shop highlight pen in 01 on my brow bone.

Onto my lips – I wanted to keep these pretty neutral as I knew with going out for dinner I didn’t want be worrying about getting bright lipstick on my teeth or having to touch up etc so I opted for a really muted option. I first of all shaped and lined with an ELF double ended pencil. I then took my Kardashian beauty lipstick/lipgloss kit in Kourtney (in the buff) and applied the lipstick followed by the gloss.

To finish I took the highlight powder from my sleek palette and dusted this lightly down my nose and using a small brush a small amount on my cuspids bow.

I loved this look I created and felt really confident. It’s hard to see in the photos as they are taken with an iphone but I loved the very light contour/highlight effect I did – I felt like It really made my skin glow.

I really want to try some more looks using contouring but with liquid foundation rather than powder. Has anyone got any recommendations for drug-store products to try while I’m learning?
