If you follow me on Twitter (if you don’t then I’m @BeautyBarmybird) then you probably saw me tweeting about being excited to attend the #BloggersSeceretSanta14 event in Nottingham last week. The event was held at the Ned Ludd in the centre of Nottingham. I got the train from Sheffield with Kirstie and Billie both at total babes so do check out their blogs.
We arrived at the venue and was greeted by Hannah and Emma who had organised the day. They had made us all name tags with our web address, twitter names and our real names on so we all knew who was who. It was a really nice idea that made it a bit easier to get to know everyone and as they had taken the time to use our blog headers easy to identify people who knew via blogging/twitter but never actually met.
Both Hannah and Emma did an amazing job – the room was decorated with Xmas crackers and candy canes which was a lovely touch to fit in with the Secret Santa theme.
At the event there was four speakers from different brands.
First up was Ian from The Ultimate Fix a nail spray which dries and makes polish stay chip free for longer and Hello a breath fresh spray that comes in the cutest litte spray bottle ever!
Second was the beautiful Lekha from Merumaya who talked to us about the brand, whats in some of their most popular products and what makes them so effective. She generously gave us all some samples to take home and try which I can’t wait to use being a skin care junkie!
The third brand of the day was Xenca, Suzie gave an extremely informative talk about the importance of being healthy and looking after ourselves. She passed around some samples of Five A Day+ which is mixed with water/juice and contains 5-7 servings of fresh fruit/veg to help you get those important nutrients we need daily.
The last brand of the day was LUSH – Holly, Ivy and Charlie from the Nottingham store came along with some of the new shampoo bars launching (the honey one smells AMAZING) and some Christmas goodies. We made out own bath bombs which I’ve never done before so I LOVED making a Big Blue Bath Bomb that I could take home and use. My bath was even more satisfying knowing I’d made it myself!
At the end of the event we got our Secret Santa goodies – in mine I got a mini Urban Decay Primer potion, a Terrys Chocolate orange and a pretty jar candle.
The goodie bag was jam packed with products from my favourite brands such as Make Up Revolution, Dream Dots, Nkd Skn and SO much more!
It was such a great day and I really can’t thank Hannah and Emma for making it all happen! Also the Ned Ludd is such a lovely bar, the food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and helpful!
If you follow me on Twitter then you’ve probably seen me tweeting my excitement at attending the Northern Blogger Meet up in Sheffield. The event was organised by Catherine (Counter Pretty), Tori (Dolly Birds & Bows), Kirstie (Short Lashes) and Kathryn (The Kats Paws) It was held at the Eten Cafe Bistro in Sheffield City Centre which if you’ve never been before I’d recommend it as the staff are super friendly and the Eten burger was delicious!
The day consisted of lots a talk between bloggers, wine (of course), food and talks/demonstrations by a few of my personal favourite brands!
Lush came armed with Bath Bombs and lots of enthusiasm for the brand. Talking to us about the Lush ethos, how they help support charities and what lengths they go to find the perfect ingredients for their products while ensuring they support the communities they trade with. The passion they had for the Lush brand was obvious and that really rubbed off onto us all (I love Lush anyway but I love them a little more now!)
They very generously gave each of us a gift bag – mine contained a liquid shampoo, a sex bomb bath bomb and some enchanted eye cream which I’m eager to try.
The lovely Leanne from LM Beauty was also there with a selection of some of her beautiful nail polish’s and I might have made a cheeky purchase of stunning dusky lilac (ish) shade that I’m gonna be rocking this week!
We also had a visit from Jamie and Kitty who came to share the Benefit love. The talked us through the history of Benefit and how it all started back in the 70’s in San Fransisco all the way through to present day. We also got a sneaky preview of the Christmas specials they will be launching and they are going to be amazing!! Kitty did a fab make over talking us through the products she was using as well as expert tips on how to apply them. The bit I enjoyed the most was the eyebrow mapping – it was really interesting to learn how best to get the perfect shape and how to work out where the start of the brow, arch and tail should be in relation to your eyes/nose.
They where kind enough as well to bring over with them the newest addition to the Benefit line which is a Cream to powder blusher called Majorette. Not only does it smell good enough to eat but its as soft as butter and so dreamy.
Jamie and Kitty where so passionate and knowledgeable about the brand it was infectious that I now literally want to buy everything from Benefit and become a Benebabe! They kindly gave us all a full size They’re real mascara and the new Push up They’re real liner. I’ve used the liner twice so far and I LOVE it! I’m pretty good with liner anyway as its something I’ve been wearing on a regular basis for years now but once you’ve got the hang of the liner (it is a little odd at first) then you will LOVE it. Total convert here!
To round the day off Gemma (McCarthys Beauty Review) and I stopped off for a bottle of wine and a gossip about the day as well as having a sneaky rummage through our goodie bags which where jam packed full of amazing products for us to try! Some of the items I’d been wanting to try for a while so I was over the moon to get them and I’m planning on do full reviews on them for future posts once I’ve got round to giving them a good try.
It was such a fantastic day and I really cannot thank the ladies that organised it all enough – they did such an amazing job so please follow the links at the top and say Hi to them!!
I really would like to attend more blogger events so if anyone knows of or is arranging any then please let me know as I’d love to come!
Beauty Barmy Bird
As you probably saw me tweeting the other day I was very excited to be going to the Illamasqua bloggers event at Meadowhall, Sheffield. I went with my friend Gemma from McCarthy’s Beauty Review. We decided to get there a couple of hours before the event so we could do a spot of shopping and have some dinner. The event was the first I’ve ever attended so I was a little nervous and didn’t really know what to expect but I’d really didn’t need to worry as everyone was lovely!
Sarah and Farys took us down to a room within Debenhams where some gorgeous cupcakes and bubbly was laid out along side some beautiful gift bags and lots of Illamasqua goodies for us to have a play with. Farys did an amazing full make up tutorial giving us some fab hints and tips along the way and Sarah filled us in with lots useful product information and alternative uses for some of the products. The final look was a stunning dark smoky Autumnal look.
In the gift bags was four AMAZING Illamasqua Nail Varnish’s and a tube of Matte veil (this is a product I’ve wanted to try for SO long so I cannot wait to try it out)
After the make up masterclass we popped back upstairs to browse the counter and purchase any products we might fancy. I literally could have bought two of everything but I had to resist the urge! I picked up the Skin Base foundation which Sarah matched me to SB 6.5 which is a perfect match and after using the foundation for the first time yesterday I am literally in love. Its like nothing I’ve ever tried before and its my new favourtie foundation. I also bought the cream pigment in Emerge which Sarah recommend to help disguise my very dark circles/eyes and I must say after using it for the past two days it really does help brighten the old panda eyes.
So before the main event Gemma and I hit the shops. First stop for us was Boots (Would be rude not to right?)
In Boots I picked up two L’oreal L’Extraordinaire liquid lipstick. I feel in love with these little gold beauties back when I reviewed one here. I picked up 601 Nude Ballet (This is the shade that Mario used on Kim K for her lip colour for her wedding reception to Kanye West) and 401 Fuschia Drama.
I picked two eyeshadows also by L’oreal which are from the Colour Riche L’ombre pure collection. The gold one is 500 Gold Mama and the other is 600 Opalescent.
My other Boots purchase was the Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner. I bought this as after reading Gemma’s thoughts on it in her skincare post I really wanted to try it!
After Boots we stopped by The Body Shop which is one of my personal faves, I needed to re-purchase the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter that I love so much as it quickly and easily melts away make up in a flash and smells divine. I also picked up the Body Sorbet in Mango and a body butter in the same scent. I’ve used the body sorbet twice now and I just love it, it sinks into the skin quickly and is fantastic for a quick hit of moisture. I also popped in my basket the Aloe Soothing gel as I’ve had slightly red and sore areas around my nose so I’m hoping it will help with that. My last and probably most anticipated purchase was the Vitamin E aqua boost sorbet. I’ve been looking at this since it was announced but I can’t use it yet as I’m currently testing out another skincare regime.
My Lush buy was the Catastrophe cosmetic face mask. I loved the smell of it and sometimes my skin can be very naughty especially when my hormones start to play up so I bought this for when that time arrives. You might have seen me tweet/instagram about my mini fridge. I am so pleased with myself that I thought of this, I’ve this mini fridge for ages and its been gathering dust so I decided to plug it in and put it under my dressing table so all my goodies that need or can be chilled are
not a long walk down the stairs as I’m really lazy to hand. It just the right size to fit a few bits in and I’m loving having everything under my nose.
Last port of call was Topshop. I’d never even looked at any Topshop make up so I was really surprised by the range and quality of products on offer. I picked up three things these were a powder highlighter in Sunbeam. A metallic cream blush in Pulse, I’m not sure how much use I will get out of this but it looked so pretty I couldn’t resist. And the last purchase was a cream highlighter called Glow. I’m really annoyed about this one though, both Gemma and I purchased one each both of which was sealed but on opening them some dirty person had already had their fingers in the pot and resealed them! So it will be going in the bin as it makes me feel sick at how unhygienic that is. In normal circumstances I would take it back and ask for a refund but its not worth doing the 20 mile round trip so a lesson has been learnt there next time I will open the product to check.
It was such a fantastic night and I cannot tell you how much we laughed! I spent so much money though and I’m now on a mini spending ban until its the Northern Blogger Meet in Sheffield.
Sorry this post is so long but I wanted to share with you the great time we had and all my purchases.
Thanks for reading!
